How far can we Grab?

How far can we Grab?

Singapore, 22 March 2018 – The Land Transport Authority (LTA) had issued Grab a warning. It has concerns over taxis accepting flat fares set by registered third-party taxi booking service providers such as Uber and Grab without endorsements by taxi companies. LTA believes that they should offer metered fares unless their companies had “endorsed Grab to offer flat fares on their behalf”.

Since, Grab has made the decision to remove all ComfortDelGro cabbies from ride-hailing app JustGrab platform, an option given into Grab’s service just last month – The JustGrab app offers flat fares to commuters for a ride in either a taxi or private-hire car. This is not a partnership between both firms. On the other hand, Grab has partnered five other taxi operators to offer JustGrab while ComfortDelGro, the largest taxi operator here with more than 13,000 taxis, had in January entered into partnership with Grab’s competitor, Uber.

As such rides are not endorsed, these cabbies are deemed by LTA to have “overcharged” commuters. ComfortDelGro cabbies will however, continue to access and accept bookings offers through the GrabTaxi service, which dispatches metered taxis to commuters.
