(Singapore, 28 Jan 2025) Starting in May, all foreign tourists entering Thailand, including visitors from Singapore, will be required to fill out the TM6 entry form online. The Thai government hopes this measure will improve tracking of tourists’ movements after their arrival and restore confidence in the safety of tourism in Thailand.

Previously, the Thai government required foreign visitors to fill out a paper version of the TM6 form. However, to simplify the entry process and alleviate congestion at international airports, this requirement was suspended in 2022.

From May onward, all foreign tourists—whether entering by air, land, or sea—will need to fill out the TM6 entry form online in advance. There will be no charge for completing the form.

According to Pattaya Mail, tourists will be required to provide personal details from their passport, their accommodation address in Thailand, and a contact phone number.

The Thai government will meet with stakeholders next week to introduce the new electronic online system and provide more details next month.

In recent years, Thailand has seen numerous cases of foreign tourists being trafficked to Myanmar-based online scam operations, which has led the tourism industry to call for a review of the visa exemption policy for foreign tourists, including visitors from China. The Thai government hopes that this new measure will enable authorities to better track tourists’ movements in Thailand and restore confidence in the country’s safety.

Additionally, the Thai government had planned to start charging an entry fee of 300 Thai Baht (around 12 SGD) for tourists this year. However, according to the Bangkok Post, this fee is likely to be delayed as the priority is ensuring the smooth operation of the electronic entry form.

As early as 2019, the Thai government had planned to impose an entry fee for visitors, but the implementation was delayed due to the pandemic and political changes. After the pandemic, authorities initially planned to introduce the fee in 2023, but due to difficulties with the payment system, it was postponed again. The revenue from this fee is intended to provide insurance for foreign visitors and improve Thailand’s infrastructure.
