(Singapore,03.04.2025)Today, Schroders Capital’s Infrastructure team in Asia has announced the first close of its pioneering China renewable energy strategy, bolstered by a substantial US$100 million anchor investment from Apple. This significant collaboration targets renewable infrastructure investments focused on late-stage development and construction of wind and solar assets across China.

The actively-managed strategy is poised to add approximately 550,000 megawatt-hours annually to China’s electricity grid through new wind and solar energy generation. This expansion is anticipated to increase as more clients contribute to the fund, setting a robust foundation for sustainable growth in the region.
This new fund mirrors the success of the initial China clean energy strategy launched in 2018, also in partnership with Apple and its suppliers. It underscores both Schroders Capital’s and Apple’s continued commitment to advancing carbon neutrality goals by 2030, inclusive of their supply chains and product lifecycles.
Yuyu Peng, Head of China Renewable Infrastructure at Schroders Capital Infrastructure Asia, emphasized the role of the strategy in the energy transition. “This second strategy underscores the critical role our clients play in supporting the energy transition and highlights the importance of actively managed investment solutions in this area,” Peng stated. He noted that the initiative aligns with their commitment to fostering resilient cash flows while accelerating decarbonization targets for clients.
Richard Oldfield, Group Chief Executive of Schroders, reflected on the firm’s long-standing engagement with China. “China has long been an important strategic focus for Schroders. We were among the first international asset managers to enter mainland China and have actively engaged with the domestic market for over 30 years,” said Oldfield. He highlighted the synergy between global investment expertise and deep local market understanding, enhancing their ability to deliver innovative investment solutions and stable returns.
The Schroders Capital’s renewable team, renowned as one of the largest pure-play energy transition infrastructure managers globally, brings extensive experience and a broad network within China’s renewable energy sector. With a portfolio that includes a diverse array of 47 wind and solar projects, totaling 1.2GW in renewable energy assets, the team’s deep understanding of China’s policy environment plays a pivotal role in navigating and exploiting the burgeoning investment opportunities in the region.
As China continues to lead the globe in installed renewable energy capacity, the collaborative efforts of Schroders Capital and Apple through this new fund are set to make significant strides in the global transition towards a sustainable and cleaner energy future.
