(Singapore 25 April 2023) The organizer of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) is in town for the first time soliciting Singaporean companies to participate in this year’s fair from Nov 5-10 in Shanghai.
Initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2018, CIIE is hailed for the purpose of expanding China’s opening-up and turning China’s market into opportunities around the world.
“We sincerely welcome you to visit Shanghai and participate in CIIE again,” Liu Fuxue, Deputy Director-General of CIIE Bureau, said at the CIIE 2023 Promotion Conference which was held in Singapore today.
As with the previous years, this year’s CIIE will comprise six exhibition areas, namely food and agriculture products, automobile, intelligent industry & information technology, consumer goods, medical equipment & healthcare products, and trade in services.
So far, more than 26,000 square meters of the total 36,000-square-meter exhibition site has been contracted by participants, Liu said.
Roland Ng, 1st Vice Chairman of Singapore Business Federation China & North Asia Business Group, said in his opening remarks: “CIIE serves as a beacon of international cooperation, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration, promoting an inclusive and open global economy.”
He said the total sales achieved and declared by CIIE 2022 Singapore Pavilion was more than the amount achieved in 2021. The known sales value shared by Singaporean exhibitors amounted to S$100 million, including onsite sales, sales under negotiation and sales expected over the next 12 months.
“Despite the pandemic, the Singapore Pavilion consisted of 50 Singapore companies occupying a total of 1294 sqms of commercial exhibition space in three main exhibition halls, namely the Trade in Services Hall, Food & Agricultural Products Hall, and Consumer Goods Hall,” he added, noting that SBF, in conjunction of CIIE, has also organized five editions of Singapore-China Trade and Investment Forum in Shanghai.
It is not clear how many Singaporean companies have confirmed their participation for this year’s CIIE.
Tian Ye, Assistant to General Manager of the CIIE Department of National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), told Fortune Times that the US, Japan, and German are the top three exhibiting countries over the past five CIIEs, in terms of their number of exhibitors and the size of exhibiting areas.
The National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), CIIE’s venue, is one of Shanghai’s landmarks with a total construction area of more than 1.5 million square meters. About 1.5 kilometers away from Hongqiao Transportation Hub, NECC is linked to Hongqiao Airport and Hongqiao Railway Station by the city’s metro lines.
