(13.03.2025, Singapore) Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses will make its Asian premiere from 15 March till 10 August, paying tribute to one of fashion’s most revolutionary forces working at the intersection of art and science. Presented by ArtScience Museum in collaboration with Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, France, this major retrospective showcase marks Iris van Herpen’s first solo exhibition in Asia, featuring over 140 of her most iconic works.

Alchemic Atelier

Worn by renowned figures such as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Björk, Scarlett Johansson, Fan Bingbing, and Naomi Campbell, van Herpen’s sculptural designs combine traditional hand craftsmanship with advanced technologies such as 3D printing, algorithmic design, and laser cutting, to shape garments that embody the complexity and fluidity of the natural world.

Forces Behind the Forms

Visitors will be taken on a journey from the depths of the ocean to the outer reaches of space, unfolding across 11 zones and nine themes that celebrate van Herpen’s future-facing and multi-disciplinary approach to her craft. Transgressing conventional norms of fashion, her striking creations stem from a deep curiosity about the natural world, where she weaves unexpected materials and kinetic elements influenced by science and the movement of the body, into living, breathing wearable sculptures.

Iris van Herpen’s works are placed in dialogue with natural history specimens and ancient fossils including a vitrine with corals and sea urchins

Much more than just a fashion exhibition, her looks and accessories are placed in dialogue with a curated selection of artefacts, ancient fossils, skeletons, contemporary artworks and natural history specimens such as corals, offering intimate glimpses into her artistic process, her expansive imagination and her diverse sources of inspiration. For this iteration of the exhibition, ArtScience Museum has incorporated regional perspectives including artefacts from Singapore’s Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum and contemporary works from Southeast Asian artists. The exhibition also highlights her collaborations with architects, scientists, and artists, demonstrating how her designs operate at the intersection of fashion, science, art and technology.
