In September 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed a major initiative to explore the construction of a global energy internet and to meet global electricity demand in clean and green ways at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit. In March 2016, the Global Energy Internet Development Cooperation Organization was officially established. Over the past six years, the Organization has made significant innovative achievements and won a high reputation around the world by painstakingly promoting international cooperation and focusing on fundamental research. It has become a leading force pioneering at the global energy forefront.
As pointed out at the Meeting, the Organization should continue to work towards its mandate of “building a global energy internet for meeting global electricity demand in clean and green ways”, and to endeavour to promote the wellbeing of all humanity and contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind. The Organization should also deeply grasp the general trend and direction of the energy revolution, keep abreast of the times and continue to innovate with a broad global mindset and vision so as to better perform its roles as a think tank, an innovation hub and a cooperation platform, thus further enhancing its comprehensive strength and global influence. More contributions should be made towards building a global energy internet as well, helping the world secure clean and low-carbon energy transformation, addressing climate change and achieve sustainable development of mankind. To this end, the Organization should focus on the following.
Firstly, the Organization will continue to promote green development and help build a better future for the earth. The Organization will adhere to clean and low-carbon development and take on the responsibility of facilitating energy transformation. Secondly, the Organization will continue to expand open cooperation and help build a community with a shared future for mankind. The global network will be expanded to attract more members, building the Organization into a platform of international cooperation with wider coverage and higher efficiency. Thirdly, value creation will continue to figure prominently within the Organization to help build a globally connected energy internet. The Organization will join hands with all parties to strengthen research and innovation on the energy internet and actively serve relevant countries and regions in their electricity planning and project implementation. Fourthly, the Organization will continue to work hard to build itself into a world-class international organization by improving its services, strengthening its innovation, and fortifying its team construction for safer, healthier as well as more scientific and orderly development.
